Mechanical Engineer (HVAC experience)

Location: Nashville, TN
Industry: Engineering Consulting / Industrial & Commercial Design 

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC design experience to support multidisciplinary engineering projects across industrial, manufacturing, and commercial facilities. This role will be responsible for the design, analysis, and coordination of HVAC and mechanical systems, working closely with project managers and cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and exhaust systems for industrial and commercial facilities
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software
• Develop equipment specifications, system layouts, and ductwork/piping designs
• Produce and review construction drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical schematics
• Coordinate with electrical, structural, and process engineering teams to ensure integrated design solutions
• Support field investigations, site surveys, and construction activities as needed
• Review vendor submittals and ensure compliance with project specifications
• Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, International Mechanical Code, etc.)
• Assist with cost estimates, scheduling, and project execution planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 3–8+ years of experience in HVAC/mechanical system design
• Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or large commercial projects preferred
• Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar
• Experience performing load calculations (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or similar)
• Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA)
• Strong communication and coordination skills across disciplines

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification
• Experience with energy modeling and sustainability design
• Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and controls
• Field experience supporting construction or commissioning

Work Environment & Project Types

• Projects may include manufacturing plants, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and institutional projects
• Mix of office-based design work and occasional field/site visits
• Fast-paced, team-oriented environment typical of EPC and consulting firms
