Engineering a world of possibilities The Mining Engineering department at Colorado School of Mines is hiring for
a Post-Doctoral Fellow who will join an interdisciplinary research group convened under an industry funded project on development of AI
systems for near real-time prediction of insitu state of stress in subsurface.
Under the supervision of Dr. Sebnem Duzgun, this
position will participate in a project involving numerical modeling and development of AI and machine learning based predictive models. This
position is expected to contribute intellectually to this project, as well as to advance their own research interests in collaboration with
the research team.
Primary responsibilities include:
- subsurface data collection and analysis using 3D modeling tools through
extensive public database search
- finite and distinct element modeling of underground structures and reservoirs
- multimodal
data curation for AI input using machine learning and development of AI models in python or other programming languages
- mentorship
of graduate and undergraduate students
- writing peer-reviewed articles
- developing grant proposals
- creation and
dissemination of communication and outreach materials for industry partners
Required Qualifications - PhD in mining,
petroleum engineering and other related disciplines in geosciences
- Strong background and experience in numerical modeling of
subsurface structures
- Advance user skill for software used in subsurface and reservoir modeling
- Record of writing
peer-reviewed papers and grant proposals
Preferred Qualifications - Experience collaborating with engineers from
various backgrounds
- Machine learning and AI background
- Record of pitching and presentations in industrial and academic
settings

Annual Rate $65,000
The Initial appointment is for up to nine months; future funding is contingent on funding
and based on performance. Start date is flexible, but not would prefer not later than April 1, 2025.
