Job Summary

St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School is seeking a Substitute Teacher to provide instructional support in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute maintains a safe, respectful, and faith-centered learning environment while implementing lesson plans, supervising students, and supporting the mission and values of the Catholic school.

Job Responsibilities

Instructional Duties

• Deliver teacher-provided lesson plans in core subjects and/or specialty areas.

• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners.

• Maintain continuity of instruction and classroom routines.

• Use appropriate classroom management techniques to ensure a positive learning environment.

Student Supervision

• Monitor students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other assigned areas.

• Ensure student safety and uphold school behavioral expectations.

• Report any incidents or concerns to school administration.

Faith & Mission Integration

• Support and model the Catholic values and mission of the school.

• Lead or participate in prayer when appropriate.

• Demonstrate respect for the Catholic faith and support a Christ-centered environment (note: substitutes are not required to teach doctrine unless specified by the school).

Professional Responsibilities

• Follow all school policies, procedures, and schedules.

• Communicate professionally and effectively with students, faculty, and staff.

• Maintain confidentiality and uphold standards of professionalism.

• Complete required reports, attendance records, or notes for the returning teacher.

Job Requirements

• Prior classroom or childcare experience preferred.

• Ability to manage groups of children in a structured setting.

• Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.

• Strong communication, flexibility, and organizational skills.

• Background check and required clearances (varies by diocese).
